The New York Times is developing a co-branded home page with the International Herald Tribune, according to an internal Times memo obtained by Fishbowl NY.

The memo says the Times, which gained full ownership of the IHT in 2003, will, in addition to merging the Times’ online international coverage with that of IHT’s, link the advertising sales and management structures of the two titles.

NYTimes.com attracts 58 million unique visitors per month, according to WebTrends. Iht.com draws 7 million visitors monthly, a large percentage of which are international readers.

The move, which comes on the heels of The Wall Street Journals own print and online editorial makeover last week, also includes the reassignment of Times associate managing editor Martin Gottlieb to the newly created position of editor of the company’s global edition.

1.
Its a good move, as a reader of both, the IHT too often carries the same stories as the NYT, you want to feel the IHT has its own brand, audience and tone.
