Playing it Cool at Conde's Hot List Party

We were feeling like a hot mess by the time we left Conde's Hot List Party last night. And if we were not feeling so great walking out the door that usually means that we were feeling pretty good while behind closed ones. Guests of Conde Nast Traveler’s annual bash, which celebrates the world’s best restaurants, spas and clubs, represented a strange melting pot. There were literary smarties and mag-world somebodies, world travelers anxious to drop the name of a random island north of Russia and then roll their eyes in disgust when you say you’ve never been there and seemingly misplaced celebrities like Adrian Brody and Ashlee Simpson, who was probably bummed she couldn’t indulge in the delicious pineapple martinis (we heard babies don't like Vodka but that could just be another vicious celebrity rumor).

The scene at the meatpacking district club was part Willy Wonka, part 5th Element (you know, that Bruce Willis movie?) complete with Loompa-sized guys wearing digital picture frames strapped to their bare chests roaming through the crowd (we still haven’t figured out their deal). The slew of young probably-will-bes-but-you're-not-quite-yet-so-why-don't-you-just-take-it-easys nearly killed the night by constantly spilling their drinks everywhere but on the designer dresses they will most likely be returning over the weekend, but thankfully the great time overpowered our momentary impulses of rage.

Throw an awesome DJ in the mix (Lady Miss Kier of Deee-Lite), weird server costumes and the cutest little hamburgers we've ever seen and you’ve got an unusually good time.
