While longtime sports bible Sporting News is slated to go bi-weekly on Sept. 1st, the three-week-old Sporting News Today is aiming to swim where others sink. Launched amazingly on the sceduled launch date, (July 23), the digital sports newspaper will be delivered digitally every morning -- seven days a week, 365 days a year – to registered users who sign up at www.sportingnewstoday.com.

Online sports coverage is already so heavily saturated, it seems hard to image there's room for yet another digital publication. Yet managing editor Paul Kasko says that this new digital publication offers more and we at minonline have to agree. "The way that we package the content is unique to other sports news sites. Plus we have comprehensive coverage of MORE sports, not just the major seven. We have an actual sports newsroom, " says Kasko.

Perhaps most interesting is that while most publications are laying off employees, Sporting News Today hired several. The staff consists of seven topic editors and several reporters and contributors and all of them write for both the print and online, also unique.

The site is based on a subscription model, similar to newspapers, and therefore traditional web metrics are of less importance (than subscription numbers). Since ads are yet to be sold on the site, traffic numbers are not being released yet. Kasko says they expect to add ads to the site within two months.
