We asked consumer executives to tell us about their favorite magazine cover and why.
We received an overwhelming response. Here are their stories.

Magazine: Discover Magazine
Publisher: Bob Guccione Jr.
Cover Story: “The Future of Terrorism,” July 2006
Writers: Sarah Richardson, Alex Stone, Jessica Ruvinsky, Amos Kenigsberg
Editors: Corey Powell, Alan Burdick
Creative Director: Emiliano Neri
Our favorite cover story of the past 18 months is The Future of Terrorism (July 2006). This particular cover story not only provides a new angle on the ever-popular topic of terrorism, but it also illustrates the improvements taking place at Discover since the purchase of the publication by Bob Guccione Jr. Starting with a question, “Is technology making us safer – or more vulnerable?,” Discover takes its audience on a scientific journey through a current concern increasingly on people’s minds. The Future of Terrorism provides a fresh perspective on the science and technology behind terrorism with expert sources, impactful imagery and engaging editorial. This in-depth feature introduces new aspects in the war on terror, like the dark web, while providing detailed accounts on how these findings will affect our future. Discover offers its audience the complicated science and technology behind terrorism in uncomplicated terms allowing a wide audience the accessibility to join us in contemplating The Future of Terrorism.

Magazine: Elle
Publisher: Hachette Filipacchi Media
Cover Story: Lindsay Lohan Interview with Andrew Goldman, September 2006
Photographer: Gilles Bensimon
I love all my cover girls, of course, but if I had to pick one cover story that had the most impact in the last 18 months, it would have to be Andrew Goldman’s interview with Lindsay Lohan in September 2006. We had the two things you need most to do a great cover story: access and openness from the subject. Lohan’s remarkable candor coupled with Goldman’s canny analysis of the nuances and difficulties of being one of the most famous people in the world at such a young age, made for a riveting read. Coupled with the amazing photographs of Lohan channeling Ali McGraw and Ann Margaret as shot by Gilles Bensimon made it just an incredibly rewarding cover story for ELLE.   - Roberta Myers, Editor-in-Chief
