A packed room at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City paid witness to the induction of seven magazine publishing luminaries into the min Sales Executive Hall of Fame (stay tuned for pictures of the event):
- Summit Business Media's Bill Reilly, most famous for building Primedia from its birth until 1999, when it topped $1.7 billion in revenues.
- Margery Gladstone, publishing director at Fairchild for DNR and Menswear Magazine and a member of the legendary (and unofficial) Woman's Day alumni group.
- Richard Porter, CEO of Publishing Group of America, whose brands appear in 1,700 magazines nationwide and hit 9 million readers--each. Also a member of the Woman's Day alumni group.
- Jeannine Shao-Collins, senior vice president and group publisher of Ladies' Home Journal and More. LHJ is celebrating its 125th anniversary next year.
- Fabio Freyre, currently a "free agent", spent 16 years taking Time Inc.'s Sports Illustrated to the top.
- Tom Beusse, also a "free agent" after guiding Time4 Media through a successful sale to Bonnier in January.
- Jim Fishman, vice president and group publisher of AARP The Magazine, which has gone from 17 million to 31.5 million readers under his tenure.
- And Cathie Black, president of Hearst Magazines, was given our "Mustang" award for rising up the sales ranks to conquer and lead a major magazine company.
